Guided Meditation CDs Are More Effective When The Intention Behind Them Is Real - Is Yours?

It's very easy to find guided meditation and guided imagery CDs and downloads on the internet today. That's because it's very easy to make a recording, and call it a guided meditation. But what kind of quality are you getting when you buy one?

That depends a great deal on the intention of the person making it. Aside from factors like talent, skill, training, production values, and professionalism, there is one magical quality that can not be learned or faked: The intention behind the product. What's the bottom line for the person doing the writing, narration, music, and production? Are they mainly interested in making money, or are they mainly interested in helping people?

We've all been around people who have a sort of undefinable nurturing quality. When you talk to someone like that, you automatically start to relax, feel better, and for some reason want to tell them all your troubles. That's because they care, and it comes across on a subconscious level. Truly caring about other people can't be manufactured -- it's either there or it isn't. And when it's there, it comes across.

The same is true for the person narrating a guided meditation. If they have a connection with the material, and if they have a natural compassion for others, their caring will come through their voice. Even if they are not a skilled reader, the listener will get more out of a recording made from someone with genuine caring and compassion than they will from someone who's a great dramatic artist but doesn't connect inside to their heart.

This is certainly true in situations where you're being guided through a meditation by someone there with you in the room. But it's just as true when it's a recorded piece. Musicians know all about this, because they will often reject a recording that sounds "clean and perfect" but doesn't have the right feeling. Most musicians will prefer the track with the feeling to one that's perfect every time.

If you happen to be in the position of doing a guided imagery or guided meditation voice recording yourself, make connecting to the material -- and connecting to the listener -- a priority. Imagine your listener is right there in the room with you, and their happiness, health, and their life depends on your sincerity. Think about the words you're saying, and think about how they will effect the listener. Imagine healing energy coming out from your heart to everyone who will hear your recording. Then you'll have the kind of connection to the material that can make a difference.
