Getting Through A Divorce For Men - The Benefits Of Meditation

Meditation is defined as "to be in continuous contemplative thought" according to Webster's Dictionary. Records of its practice date back 5000 years ago, first referenced most notably through Buddha and the Hindu religion, but its practice seems to be evident in all major religions. Bear in mind, these records only document meditations existence when a written form of language was available.

Some experts believe meditation can have been present as long as 40-50,000 years ago. Their reasoning being, meditation is awareness, so in our evolutionary progression, when we first became aware, it was a form of meditation. This awareness is proposed to be present with the use of tools from that time period.

Regardless, meditation is here. There are 2 fundamental foundations of meditation leading the search for inner peace and both can be highly beneficial when going through a divorce. The two types, concentrative meditation and mindfulness meditation, can bring the practitioner to a calm, restful state and have healthy physical byproducts that can further enhance our well being.

Some of the health benefits of meditation include:
Lower blood pressureIncrease blood flowControl chronic painSome studies have shown meditation may reverse effects of heart disease

Not only are there physiological benefits of meditation, but psychological improvements are also reported:
Emotional controlReduced stress and anxietyImproved concentrationIncreased self esteem and confidence

Concentrative Meditation

Concentrative meditation incorporates the use of focus in its practice. With this technique, the individual focuses on a specific item such as breathing, counting, or a single word like FOCUS to narrow their attention. I find this to be best practiced in a quiet area, allowing me to focus my concentration on a specific thing. Many times this type of meditation can be indicated by the reverberate "ohm" chanting.

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness meditation practice opens you to awareness, leading to enlightenment. With this form of meditation, the individual concentrates on everything around them; sound, the feel of the breeze on your skin, smell. Notice and allow random thought to pass through the mind without judgment or preconceptions. I have found this to be very refreshing when done out in nature, appreciating everything around you. You can find a strong awareness and sense of now with mindfulness meditation.

Both forms of meditation are highly useful, extremely so when getting through a divorce. For men, emotional displays or breakdowns are socially unacceptable and can embarrassing. This can make meditation a perfect opportunity to rediscover yourself and develop acceptance of the things around you. There isn't much help getting through divorce for men, so meditation can allow us to help ourselves.

The benefits of meditation don't end at helping us getting through a divorce. For men, women and children, the benefits of meditation can be woven into everyday moments. Through practice, the benefits of meditation can bring light to all parts of your life.

Getting through a divorce for men is a challenging and sometimes disparaging battle that can drain us emotionally and physically. Learn how to meditate and find other resources for self discovery and the enjoyment of life here. Remember, the best gift you can give yourself right now is time.

Getting Answers With Guided Imagery - It's As If You Were Psychic!

We all have access to much more information than we can hold in our limited intellect. Consider the way professional psychics and intuitives operate. (I'm talking here about the real ones, not the fake ones.) Prior to meeting a new client, a good psychic normally knows nothing about them, so their intellect is basically blank on the subject. But somehow it's as if they can pull information out of thin air. Guided imagery and guided meditation can help give you some of the same ability that psychics and intuitives have.

The main difference between psychics and normal people is that psychics are more open to input and impressions. The information a psychic brings forward is already present, but it's just out of reach of the intellect. Whether they have a natural gift, or learned to cultivate the ability, they can reach beyond the intellect and access that information, or put another way, can open and allow it in.

Guided imagery can help you open to do the same thing. The key is in the setup. In order to have the same kind of openness a psychic has, you need to be relaxed, loose, and in a state of enhanced awareness.

A good guided meditation will first help you relax. Soft background music, gentle narration, and a script that takes you to a very comfortable inner space handles that first requirement. Then you need something to engage your interest, to get your imagination revved up. If the topic of the script is something you care about, whether it's nature scenes or auto racing, you'll have an easier time being engaged. So, if it's about nature, the narrator may guide you to a mountainside, a beach, or a meadow with a rainbow. If it's about auto racing you might be in the stands at a track, or you might be the race car driver.

At that point, you should be fully relaxed and engaged in the story -- "in the movie", so to speak. That's when the narration should open a door for you, by suggesting that you see, hear, feel, become aware of, or know something new. (Tip: You'll get the most milage out of looking for information that pertains directly to you and your path in life.) One way to receive the information is from a person, animal, or other being who's part of the meditation story, and reveals something.

You can find a number of programs that help you learn something new about yourself at the author's website, The Healing Waterfall. Max Highstein loves showing people how to access information, especially when it comes to healing and personal growth, through guided imagery and meditation.

Getting It Right On How To Meditate

To perform meditation is such a big help to an individual to live calm, peaceful and balanced life. Through this we can control our thoughts and minds by how it dictates us in our everyday life. The actions of our body with our mind and how we react in different situations are affected by meditation. You may come to think of it that there is no other way than to relax your mind.

Identify your daily routine or habits.

Meditation requires time management for you to be able to succeed. You have to find a slot within your time where you can perform your meditation. Having the benefits of meditation is full when you include it with your daily life (eg. after you take a bath, before brushing your teeth or after drinking coffee). 1. The walking meditation- when you are walking and where there are not too much distractions and obstacles that may block your way, you can perform walking meditation. You should conceptualize with the sounds of the things around you, the feel of your feet as you take a step and your breathing rate. The main goal is to focus your mind with walking and with your find senses only.

2. The downtime meditation- When you have a break from your task during the day, it is best to practice those meditation that require only a short period of time like breathing meditation and awareness meditation. Those times when you are in an elevator, waiting for your bread to toast or riding the subway train and many others are the times that you should insert your short period meditation. You can spend a minute or two focusing on your breath. Being aware of something you are interested in and that surrounds you is a great way to start the meditation. Getting Ready For Your First Guided Meditation

Your meditation time is a rare opportunity to connect within on a very deep level, let go of stress and accumulated tension, and find peace. If you're going to take the time to do a guided meditation, it pays to make the most of it by getting set up beforehand.

Here's a checklist of things to do to optimize your experience:
Eliminate distraction. Make sure you will not be disturbed by anyone knocking on your door, ringing your phone, jumping up on your lap (that means you, Kitty Cat), or playing the drums in the next room.
Get comfortable. Ideally, you'd want to have your feet flat on the floor, so you can have the experience of being "grounded" while you're connecting inside. But if it works better for you to have your feet up, then set it up that way, and give yourself whatever support helps you to forget about your body for a while. It's probably best not to be totally horizontal, though, because you're likely to end up asleep. (Unless of course that's your goal.)
Set the volume. Whether you're using headphones (recommended if you're comfortable with them), or speakers, set up the recording and give it a test before you get started. It should be loud enough to hear the words spoken, and not much louder.
Breathing. If your meditation calls for some deep breathing, great! If not do yourself a favor and do some deep, belly-centered breathing before you begin. Slow, deep abdominal breathing helps your body relax, gets the blood flowing to your brain and nervous system, and helps open up those creative centers so your imagination can take flight.
Be rested. It's hard to get a lot out of meditation when you're too tired to appreciate it, or when you just fall asleep instead of hearing the narration. Do your guided meditation when you have the energy to devote to it, rather than using it as a way to nod off -- unless that's your intention.
Don't be too hungry. Haven't eaten in a few hours? Maybe it'd be a good idea to have a little pre-meditation snack, so your stomach doesn't pull your attention away from your inner journey.

Ready? Not quite. Before you begin, be conscious of what your goal is for the meditation, and set your intention to achieve it. If you're simply looking for a relaxing inner vacation, let yourself know that ahead of time. If you're working with a program to connect with an inner guide or spiritual figure, take a moment to focus all of your attention on that goal before you start. By focusing on your goal before you begin, you'll put your whole system on notice that this is what you're after. That way your body, brain, imagination, and higher consciousness can all start working together for you.
